Minimum spanning trees: weight by VNTR copy number difference

Question:

I have a question regarding the use of minimum spanning trees for the analysis of MLVA data: is there a way to weight the analysis to take the number of repeat differences at each locus into consideration?

Answer:

The summed absolute distance coefficient (also called “Manhattan” or “City block” coefficient) takes this into account.
