Bypass normalization

Question:

What does the option Bypass normalization in the fingerprint conversion settings imply?

Answer:

The goal of normalization is that patterns on different gels are locally stretched or shrunk in such a way that bands with the same size (e.g. molecular weight or base pairs) occur physically at the same position. If patterns are already normalized by other software and the user does not want BioNumerics to perform any additional normalization, the Bypass normalization option can be used. This will ensure that the densitometric curves are preserved in their original imported format, without any manipulation.

The Bypass normalization option should only be used in very particular cases. Actually, we have implemented this feature especially for RiboPrint patterns (Qualicon, Inc.) and are not aware of any other case where you might use it.
